On June 4, I traveled from Ljubljana to Rijeka and Opatija, covering about 110 kilometers of scenic roads from Slovenia to Croatia. The bike paths in Slovenia are really excellent for cycling. A significant part of the route from Ljubljana to Rijeka consists of dedicated cycling lanes, which makes the ride more comfortable and safer. In these towns, the air is filled with the intoxicating scent of evergreen jasmine, which seems to envelop you and inspire new discoveries. This is not just the Adriatic coast, but places with a unique blend of history and nature.
Rijeka is a major port city with a rich cultural heritage and a dynamic atmosphere, where architectural monuments come alive and voices from different eras can be heard. Opatija is the jewel of Croatian resorts, immersed in greenery and flowers, where every corner breathes tranquility and the luxury of old villas.
Italian heritage gives Rijeka and Opatija a special charm and elegance, making them a unique bridge between Slavic and Mediterranean worlds.
Here, among jasmine alleys and sea breezes, you can feel the breath of freedom and find inspiration for new great journeys.
In Opatija, I am especially grateful to the Ičići and Ambassador, Paris hotels, and in Rijeka — to the Grand Hotel Bonavia — for allowing me to work for several hours in their lobbies. Such support is incredibly important and helps me continue the project on the road.
Unfortunately, the Grand Hotel Adriatic and Hotel Miramar in Opatija refused to give me this opportunity. I wish them luck in attracting clients and hope they will reconsider their attitude toward guests in the future.
