Bolfan Vinski Vrh: The Heart of Organic Winemaking in Croatia
During my journey to Zagreb, I spent two days at the Bolfan Vinski Vrh winery, located in the picturesque region of Hrašćina. This place amazed me with its harmony with nature and its deep commitment to ecological principles.
Spread across the hillsides are 20 hectares of vineyards, where grape varieties such as Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Muscat, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated. All vineyard work is done by hand, and only organic fertilizers are used — including compost made from cow and sheep manure. Since 2009, the winery has held an official eco-certificate, confirming its dedication to organic winemaking. Bolfan wines are exported to various countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Canada, the USA, Australia, and China. The winery produces several ranges of wines: the classic Bolfan line, the premium Primus series, and sparkling wines under the Centurion label.
The Vinski Vrh restaurant offers dishes made from seasonal products, sourced from local farmers within a 40-kilometer radius. Each dish is perfectly paired with wines from the estate, creating an unforgettable gastronomic symphony.
A modern conference hall was recently built on the winery grounds, ideal for hosting various events. Guests can also enjoy wine tastings, guided tours of the winery, and walks through the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Bolfan wines are recognized internationally and have earned awards, including honors at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
This place left me with unforgettable memories, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who values peace, sustainability, harmony with nature, and exceptional wine.
