Nobel Prize Laureates Appeal to Trump

Belarus, a pariah among European nations, led by dictator Alexander Lukashenko, may have a chance to emerge from the opprobrium of its authoritarian ways, but the opportunity will come at a price. Soon after the Trump team began the task of ending Russia's war in Ukraine, a U.S. envoy quietly slipped into Belarus to recover a group of political prisoners. Commentators suggest this could be part of a broader effort to pry Belarus away from Russia’s clutches. Meanwhile, an open letter signed by a group of Nobel Prize winners was recently submitted to the Trump administration, requesting support in the task of setting all of Lukashenko’s political prisoners free. Dmitry Bolkunets, from the Forum of Democratic Forces of Belarus, joined TVP World to talk about the initiative.
